congrats on the mention in their book. Bill is a great guy and I think personal branding is the future of recruitment, so the book will be a valuable asset to individuals and businesses alike.

I write about personal branding all the time in my blog

Hi Paul,
You're spot-on about *preparing* your references. I probably should have shared in my original scenario that Leigh Anne actually had done due diligence up front - she had asked her references for permission to use them as references beforehand, she had provided job descriptions AND she had given them a heads-up each time her references were checked. At several points in this process, the "Negative Nelly" in the bunch could have shared his concerns with her or flat-out refused to provide a reference (which, in my opinion, would have been the most professional way to handle it.) She had covered her bases - which is exactly why she was shocked and horrified when she uncovered the negative information.

Stacey - like the new blog name - congrats. Good point about the references - it is critical to know that the referecnes you are using are going to say the things about you that you want them too. You can even be proactive in this area by keeping them up to date with your job search, let them have descriptions of the jobs you are being considered for and let them know when to be expecting a call. I always say if you do not know waht your references are going to say then should they really be your reference? Just my toonies worth.

Stacey, just throwing in my toonies worth on blog names - if I win donate the prize to a potential client that needs your services but perhaps could not afford them.

I like the idea of incorporating your name somehow, based on your personal brand and the type of interventions you are doing with clients how about:

- The Fast Lane
- Life in the Fast Lane
- Switching Lanes

As you like all things Canadian then you can always pick Tom Cochrane's signature tune "Life is a Highway - observations on changing careers"

Alternatively:

- The Savvy & Sassy Guide to Career Success
- Making It Happen
- Getting It Done

Just my toonies worth - good luck
